2 injured in I-88 accident

Illinois State Police and fire officials responded to a two-car accident on the Ronald Reagan Tollway near Orchard Road this morning.

Benjamin J. Kastler, 21, of DeKalb realized he was in the wrong lane on eastbound I-88 and swerved his 2004 Chevrolet to get back into the proper lane of traffic about 6:30 a.m., Illinois State Police Master Sgt. David Bird said.

Bird said, due to construction for the Fox River bridge road widening project, Kastler found himself in an exit lane on I-88 and tried to swerve back into traffic.

However, when he swerved, he hit a 1996 Chrysler, driven by Amanda D. Leon, 23, of Aurora, before bouncing off and hitting the median wall.

Officials said the two drivers were taken to Provena Mercy Hospital in Aurora with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident was cleaned up at 8:30 a.m.
