Police superintendent meets with aldermen
Chicago aldermen told new Police Superintendent Jody Weis that officers seem to be doing less and taking fewer guns off the streets.
Weis said that could be because officers say they are afraid of being sued or having complaints filed against them.
Weis appeared Tuesday before the City Council's police and fire committee amid growing criticism over increasing murders and street violence.
The hearing has had its tense moments with some people causing disturbances and being removed.
Before Weis appeared, committee chairman Isaac Carothers said they still support him as superintendent but that he must answer questions about what's happening.
Weis has come under criticism amid a rising number of homicides in the city and a fatal shooting days ago near the site of the Taste of Chicago.
