Buckingham Fountain to undergo $25 million rehab
Buckingham Fountain is set for a $25 million renovation.
Chicago's famous lakefront fountain is set to undergo the overhaul starting after Labor Day. The Chicago Park District plans to repair plumbing and put together a new water and lighting show for the 81-year-old fountain.
Michael Fus is a preservation architect for the park district. He says the goal is to have the project done by April 1 when members of the International Olympic Committee visit Chicago. Chicago is one of four cities bidding for the 2016 summer games.
The renovation is the second time in 15 years that the fountain will be required to close.
