Stop bashing the USA
I need to respond to a letter to the editor submitted by Barbara Zaha from July 11.
Many citizens celebrate the 4th of July each summer surrounded by family and friends, the day ending in jaw dropping, colorful displays of fireworks provided by local municipalities.
It is a tradition many of us look forward to each year. Most have the day off (with pay) to reflect and embrace the freedoms we have enjoyed these many years. This freedom also allows us to express our views, as misguided many unknowingly are. I am baffled as to whom Ms. Zaha is referring to in her letter to "Fence Post." Who are we displacing?
Silence in response to what, to who? Are we celebrating while Rome is burning? Is she condemning the USA? For what? Rather than attempting to show her "mastery" of the English language, she should have focused on reliable facts, identifying the people in question, and following a sensible thought pattern.
I am exhausted with citizens bad mouthing our country. The United States of America is, by no means, perfect. I dare say that there is no other place on earth that allows us to enjoy the many freedoms we hold dear. It is the responsibility of its citizenry to right the wrongs and elect men and women to follow through with our desires.
It is within my rights as a citizen to request individuals to "stop bashing our beloved country." Many have sacrificed life and limb so that we can express ourselves freely. Before one begins to verbally trash the USA, lets not forget the one who brought you to the dance. Celebrate with pride the 4th of July and every patriotic holiday. We have nothing to be ashamed of.
