Storm, flood warnings in effect
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Cook and DuPage counties until 5:30 p.m.
At around 2:30 p.m., radar indicated thunderstorms producing very heavy rainfall near Barrington, near Carol Stream and in downtown Chicago. Estimates of 1½ inches per hour were expected over the advisory area.
Excessive runoff heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels in small creeks and streams and water on streets, highways and underpasses.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. for the remainder of the Chicago area.
Earlier in the day, The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Cook, northern and eastern DuPage and northeastern Kane counties which expired at 3:15 p.m.
