Tickets for Guthrie's 'Little House' break records

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Guthrie Theater says a world premiere production of "Little House on the Prairie" is breaking ticket sales records.

Friday was the first day of sales for the new musical, and the theater sold 5,461 tickets. The number is more than three times the Guthrie's previous record, which was set in 2006 for "A Christmas Carol."

The theater says 58 percent of those who purchased tickets for the musical inspired by the Laura Ingalls Wilder novels said they never before attended a show at the Guthrie.

"Little House on the Prairie" starts August 15 and runs through October 5. Previews begin late this month.
