Let's remember veterans on the 4th
This Fourth of July, residents throughout Illinois will be hosting picnics and barbecues, participating in parades and enjoying fireworks displays and concerts.
This is a day for us to come together, to count our blessings and to celebrate our freedom.
While celebrating America's birthday and displaying our red, white and blue, let's remember those who have protected our freedom and the men and women serving in war zones today.
We will forever be grateful for the sacrifices that our veterans and their families made on our behalf.
We as Americans have an obligation to make sure our veterans are getting the services and support they need, making their transition from combat to civilian life is as easy as possible.
It is the least we can do in return for their willingness to lay their lives down to protect us and the American way of life.
Illinois is working very hard to make sure our veterans have access to the best programs and benefits that they earned.
If you or someone you live with or care about has returned from military service and is having trouble transitioning back to their life, please know that confidential assistance is available 24-hours a day through the Illinois Warrior Assistance Program.
Veterans, thank you for your service and sacrifices as we celebrate our freedom.
