Rivers Casino donates $100,000 to Oakton scholarship fund

Rivers Casino recently donated $100,000 to the Oakton Community College Educational Foundation, providing 50 scholarships to Des Plaines residents to attend Oakton Community College in the 2018-19 academic year. Each scholarship is valued at $2,000.

"We're extremely appreciative of Rivers Casino's generosity," Oakton Foundation President Howard Singer said in a news release. "These scholarships will cover approximately 50 percent of tuition and fees for in-district, full-time students. Rivers will continue to impact the lives of Oakton students by taking some of the financial burden of furthering their education off their shoulders."

Since 2013, Rivers has offered $448,000 in scholarships to Oakton students from Des Plaines. It also recently donated $70,000 to buy equipment for Oakton's nursing, physical therapist assistant and medical laboratory technology programs and $25,000 toward the construction of the new Student Center at the Des Plaines campus.
