Cops issue warrant in 8-year-old's death

Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man they say left a shotgun in a yard, leading to the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old Rockford boy.

Police said Tuesday that 23-year-old Lesley DaShawn Bowman faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and endangering the life or health of a child.

Authorities say Bowman left a 12-gauge shotgun in a yard near children. They say a 9-year-old child playing the yard shot and killed 8-year-old Taevius Coleman on Sunday afternoon.

Bowman did not have a telephone listing in Rockford.
