Let's be practical about appearances
The other day, my son and I were walking by the fire station when we saw the firemen returning from a call.
My son ran in to say hi, when I noticed that the firemen were all wearing button-up shirts, similar to dress shirts.
It was a hot, humid day so I inquired as to why they were not wearing something more comfortable like T-shirts or polo shirts.
The reply I received was surprising.
Apparently, the reason for the shirts is to achieve a more professional appearance.
The firemen must wear these shirts unless the actual temperature has hit 90 degrees.
They are also not allowed to wear polo shirts or shorts.
When asked if the rules could be changed, the firemen have attempted to but to no avail.
When I need a fireman or paramedic, I am not concerned about a dress appearance as much as I am concerned about receiving help.
How about letting our firemen be more comfortable?
