Chicago woman burned with caustic substance, robbed

Police say a Chicago woman was severely burned during a robbery when two women splashed her with a caustic substance.

Authorities say 48-year-old Esperanza Medina was leaving her house Monday morning for work in Aurora when the attack occurred. Officials say she is in serious condition and has burns on nearly 25 percent of her body.

The mother of four moved to Chicago from Wyoming, Michigan. Relatives say she recently received voice mail threats and the tires on her vehicle were slashed. Family members say they don't know who made the threats.

Officials say the woman's burns are not life threatening. The two female suspects are still at large.
