Gates open on 80th annual Lake County Fair
The 80th annual Lake County Fair officially opened at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
It was a bittersweet moment for some, as Tuesday marked the official start of the last fair in its current location on Route 120, near Route 45. Next year, the fair will move to its new location on Petersen Road.
"It's definitely a bit strange right now," said Bill Obenauf, secretary of the Lake County Fair Board. "But we'll have a new home waiting for us next year. We are excited about it."
In the meantime, while you're enjoying this year's fair, here are some things to keep in mind:
1,500 pounds: Weight of a typical Holstein, which produce the largest volume of milk on average for any cow.
2: Number of times a wool-producing sheep should be sheared annually.
7: Number of kids who tried to drop large, rubber spiders from the ceiling during a tour of the beef, sheep and swine barns Tuesday at the fairgrounds.
22 for $20: Best price for tickets to ride the amusement park rides, though for $15, a person can get an unlimited ride pass for use between noon and 5 p.m.
$5: Cost of a plain funnel cake with powdered sugar. Extra powdered sugar and other toppings range from 50 cents to $1.
350: Number of "diamonds" in the crown worn by Miss Lake County.
800: Number of white teddy bears wearing Batman T-shirts. You can win one by playing a variety of fair games.
35 feet: Height motorcycles are allowed to fly when riding around the track of the Lake County Fairground motocross track.
$8: Admission price for adults. Children 12 and under are free.
