Briefs: Alzheimer film to be shown

A full-length film about Alzheimer's disease, "You Are Here," will be shown and there will be a panel discussion at 1 and 6 p.m. today at the College of DuPage Older Adult Institute, Building K, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn. The film focuses on the disease and the hopeful side of treatment and prevention for all ages. Seating is limited. For details or reservations, call (630) 469-5500.

Township brush pickup

The next St. Charles Township brush pickup is Monday. Unincorporated St. Charles residents should call the township road district office at (630) 584-3496 by Friday and leave their address if they have brush to be picked up.

Chicago Fire in Montgomery

Kids and parents are invited to train and play games with members of the Chicago Fire, the city's Major League Soccer team, from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Stuart Sports Complex in Montgomery. The Fox Valley Park District sponsors the event and while it is free space is limited. To register, children should arrive with their parents at Field 3 near the playground at 11:40 a.m. Participants must have gym shoes or cleats, shin guards, a soccer ball and a water bottle.

Volunteers wanted

Volunteers are needed to participate in a public health emergency exercise that the Kane County Health Department is planning to conduct from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 24 at East Aurora High School field house, 500 Tomcat Lane, Aurora. Organizers say the volunteers are needed to role-play as residents affected by a fictitious anthrax release. Children can participate with their parents. The role of the volunteers will take about 30 minutes, but they are welcome to stay for the entire exercise. Their names will be entered in a raffle. Individuals or organizations wishing to participate may call Jennifer Jaquez at (630) 444-3072 to register.

New YMCA director named

The Kroehler Family YMCA, serving Aurora, Naperville and Oswego communities, hired "fitness buff" Ron Anderson as its new director of health and wellness. Most recently, Anderson has served as an instructor and personal trainer at Kroehler. "I have seen Ron in action here at our YMCA and know he represents the mission and values of the YMCA, and that he is a great fit in our Health & Wellness Department," said RJ Bartels, Executive Director, Kroehler Family YMCA.
