Kane Co. Fair offers a crash worth being part of

Daredevils drove and crashed their cars into other drivers, the way we sometimes wished we could on the road.

Some cars became airborne. Other took hard hits to the front and back, rendering them immobile.

This year's Kane County Fair wrapped up Sunday, and about 1,000 people took advantage of their last chance to experience traditional fair staples like the demolition derby.

Children and impatient drivers united as one Sunday, cheering on their favorite compact and old-school midsized cars, screaming in horror or laughing at some of the spectacular moves.

"It's scary because they can always get hurt, like really bad," said Domenica Troiola, 8, of Bloomingdale, who went to the show with her mom Maria, father, Chris, and 6-year-old brother Robert.

"But again, it's really fun."

As a half-time treat, Megasaurus, a fire-breathing, car-eating monster (think a yellow Godzilla crossed with a dragon), had his afternoon snack - on one of the cars.

He lifted a helpless car off the ground using his teeth, ate parts of it and split it in half.

As if that wasn't enough, he set both pieces on fire, to the crowd's delight.

"I think they seem to enjoy destruction," said Brandon Grosz of Aurora, a security guard at the event.

Besides bringing glee to children, some adults said the demolition derby was a way to act out their behind-the-wheel about annoying drivers.

Chris Troiola said he wished he could round up all the "lousy drivers" he's encountered on the road, enter them into the demolition derby and square off against them in his own vehicle.

"Oh it'd be nice to do that," he said.

"But the world's not made like that," his daughter said.
