Art festival returns with new attractions

Always touted as a family event, this year's Buffalo Grove Fine Art Festival will have a special category for young artists.

The Youth Art will include children's clay by Jeremy Kamin, 10; jewelry and drawings by Laleh Omaraie, 12; jewelry by Saloni Nahar, 10; and jewelry by Heena Kuwayama, 9. "This is to give local kids a chance to see what it feels like to be a real artist, try it on for the weekend," said Amy Amdur, of Amdur Productions, who is organizing the event for the village.

The festival will also feature youth performers on stage on Saturday in a Little Limelight performance.

Amdur said the festival will also include continuous entertainment on both days.

"I think of it as a festival for the senses," she said. "We always like to have live music. We like to have art for people to look at and music for people to listen to." The entertainment will include Cirrus Falcon acoustic rock and David Young, who can play two flutes at once. The musicians will play off and on throughout each day, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Amdur Productions.

The Family Art tent will return with a chance to paint a car, like last year.

The tent will also include three projects for different age groups. The projects include beading, paper dolls and coloring activities.

Deerfields Bakery will also be on hand to create cookie art that participants can take home to eat. The bakery will also have a presentation on the art of decorating at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Vernon Area Public Library and the Indian Trails Library will offer the opportunity for participants to create bookmarks.

"I always like to have ways for people to make art," Amdur said.

If the weather gets warm, the festival will feature a cooling tent.

And, of course, the festival will feature about 150 artists who will have their work on display. Every year, the village also chooses one or more pieces of artwork to buy from the artists. That work remains on display in the village.

"We have a wonderful group of artists," Amdur said. "Many of them will be new to the festival."
