Jailed man tried to hire inmate to kill ex-girlfriend, cops say
Prosecutors say today that an Elgin man in Cook County Jail on charges that he harassed his former girlfriend has been indicted for allegedly trying to hire another inmate to kill the woman.
A spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office says 36-year-old Dan Evans Junior was indicted on solicitation of murder, solicitation of murder for hire, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and other charges. The indictments were announced at a hearing in the Rolling Meadows branch of Cook County Circuit Court.
Evans was arrested in October by Arlington Heights police on charges of felony domestic battery and interfering with a witness after he made harassing telephone calls to his former girlfriend.
While in jail in March, Evans is alleged to have approached an inmate and offered him $4,000 to kill the woman.
