Tigers stick with Robertson, win sixth straight
Jim Leyland and Joe Torre made different decisions about how to handle their starting pitchers during a game-interrupting rainstorm Sunday in Detroit.
It turned out Leyland made the right call.
The Dodgers-Tigers game was delayed 47 minutes with no score after the fourth inning. Leyland chose to leave Nate Robertson in the game, while Torre took out Clayton Kershaw.
Two innings later, the Tigers had a 5-0 lead, and they held on to win their sixth straight game, 5-4.
Robertson (5-6) threw in the indoor batting cage during the delay, so Leyland felt comfortable leaving him in the game.
"He threw about two simulated innings, so his pitch count was about 30 higher than it said on the scoreboard," Leyland said. "He was going great, so we wanted to leave him out there."
Indians 7, Padres 3: C.C. Sabathia (5-8) outpitched Greg Maddux (3-5) in a matchup of Cy Young winners as Cleveland defeated visiting San Diego. Ben Francisco hit a 3-run homer, and Grady Sizemore added a solo shot for Cleveland.

Cardinals 7, Phillies 6 (10): Rick Ankiel scored from second on Philadelphia's second error at first base in the 10th inning, giving host St. Louis the win. The game was marred by a potentially serious injury to Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina on a tag play at home in the ninth. Molina was taken to a hospital for evaluation of neck and back pain and sustained a mild concussion, although he did not lose consciousness after the collision with Phillies pinch runner Eric Bruntlett. All test results were negative, the team said in a release, although Molina was to be held overnight as a precaution.
