A request to be understanding
In response to the letter written by Kathleen Muhr: Being in the women's washroom with transgendered women must be uncomfortable if you don't know any personally.
This letter isn't meant to judge, only to ask for understanding for others who are different.
I urge women to think about this. If you wear pants, t-shirts, belts or some kinds of work uniform, you are cross dressing. One shade under the umbrella of "transgender."
Society is easier with females wearing 'masculine' clothes (Marlene Dietrich) than males wearing "feminine" clothes (Geraldine).
After getting to know a number of trans women, I've gotten to know many bright and caring people who I would have missed because of looking and sounding different at time. So I've learned to look with more than the eyes.
The bathroom issue is a concern in the trans community as well.
I'm comfortable with trans women using the women's washroom along side of me. However, I believe that unisex washrooms added to public places is the best solution, and I hope it will become standard in all buildings.
