Will rain slow down recovery of Chain and Fox River?

As the National Weather Service predicts more rain will fall on the area today, officials watching the Chain O' Lakes and Fox River are worried about the increase in floodwater flowing in.

Floodwater on the Chain and Fox River north of the Chain have been receding slightly, according to officials. Chain water levels crested early Wednesday and dropped a tenth of an inch Thursday.

But if the rain comes as forecasted, it would slow the speed the water levels are receding. The Fox River seemed to crest Thursday, and could start to drop, depending on the rain.

Fox Waterway Agency officials said they expect the system will remain closed to all boats through the weekend because of debris and other obstructions.
