Kirk doing 'real' work on gas crisis
Mark Kirk is distinguishing himself as one of the few Congressmen to see high gas prices as a genuine crisis rather than an opportunity to grandstand. Rather than wax indignant and mug for the news cameras like so many of his colleagues he proposed a detailed plan to transfer America from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
Congressman Kirk's appropriately named "Apollo Energy Independence Act" is a detailed blueprint to move our energy industry into the 21st century. It emphasizes clean, renewable energy as well as revitalizing the nuclear industry and massively expanding bio-fuel production. Kirk's program reduces foreign oil consumption by a whopping 734 percent and boosts clean, renewable energy production by 328 percent. These are real, impressive improvements that cannot come soon enough.
Mark Kirk has always been distinguished by his pragmatic, workable and bipartisan solutions to the problems facing our district and our country. The Apollo Act is not an empty gesture intended for the evening news, it doesn't require fantastical new technologies to work and it has elements that both parties can support.
Mark Kirk has proven once again why he is widely recognized as a leader in Congress.
