Money for village from county, town

/p>

John Strauss has again shown excellent writing skills. Unfortunately his math skills seem to fall somewhat short. He states the village of Campton Hills is "free" because it does not generate any additional taxes. His "equation" seems to neglect several facts. The village represents another layer of government which did not previously exist. Creating the village and police department requires funding from somewhere. This funding comes from a state pool of money previously allocated to county and township governments based on motor fuel revenue, sales taxes and other sources.

This pool of money did not increase because the village was created. This means the money required for the village will be taken from that allocated to the township and county. This will require them to modify their budgets to either cut services or increase their tax requirements to provide the same level of service we had before. History shows the taxes will increase at the county and township levels.

This is not "free" any more.
