Two charged after parole officers visit

Two Elgin men were arrested Tuesday when parole agents found drugs and ammunition in their apartments, police said.

Tawyka D. Bonds, 32, of 336 Lilac Lane #F, was charged with felony escape, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, police said.

A parole agent visited Bonds at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the apartment and called Elgin police, officials said.

Bonds was handcuffed and was sitting at the bottom of a stairway when officers found a plastic bag of cocaine under his couch, police said.

Still in handcuffs, Bonds ran off -- and was caught about a quarter-mile away, police said.

During a second compliance check, a parole agent found 70 bullets in another parolee's bedroom closet, police said.

Juan C. White, 29, of 308 Kathleen Drive #11, was charged with possession of ammunition by a felon and possession of ammunition without a firearm owner's identification card, police said.

Although the ammunition didn't belong to him, he was not allowed to have the shells at his residence under the terms of his probation.

Both Bonds and White were held in the Kane County jail.

Bonds has a July 1 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center. White has a July 10 court date.
