It's time for action in U-46

I am a Larkin High School (LHS) parent and have been asking the U-46 board to act on a variety of matters: the grievance filed by our choral director about his forced resignation, the inadequacies of the top administrators at LHS, the failure of the downtown U-46 administrators to do their jobs, and for the board to allow the new, "student-centered" superintendent the latitude to evaluate the present situation with those administrators and take appropriate action.

Although the board president has assured me the situation at Larkin will be "looked at," the two words that comes to mind are "accountability" and "when." They seem unaware we have voted them in to "do the right thing," and to listen to the students and parents who have the most to lose.

And to you and your newspaper, I say: I have seen reporters at the U-46 school board meetings but have not read a thing about what the students and parents are asking of the board. Besides the debacles with past superintendents, I have not seen any investigative reporting on the deep levels of inefficiencies in the U-46 school district. Why is that? You, too, are accountable to the public for informing us on the issues of the day. Are you asking the questions, "who, what, why, where, when?"

I have said it before and I will say it again, "we are tired of waiting" for actions to be taken, and we are not ready to "move on," as one U-46 administrator suggested parents do, acting as if we had no valid concern. What I, and other parents, see as valid and valued, are our students. And I don't think I am out of line asking our administrators and school board to value them, too.
