Spring Hill Mall, Habitat for Humanity plan walk-a-thon

Daily Herald report

On Saturday, Feb. 26, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley will hold its annual Walk-A-Thon at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee.

Team and individual registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the walk beginning at 8 a.m. Walkers have sponsors for their two-hour walk around the mall, with proceeds going directly into Habitat’s local campaign to rehab foreclosed homes in the area.

The rehabbed homes are restored using volunteer labor, sold at cost to qualified partner families and financed with a no-interest mortgage.

“Spring Hill Mall has partnered with Habitat in hosting this event every year as an outreach to involve the youth of the community in the mission of building affordable housing in the area,” said Amy Prew, Spring Hill Mall’s general manager. “We are delighted to partner with Habitat again and to support such a worthy cause”

Local high schools from Barrington, Elgin and Schaumburg, along with Harper College, will compete with other local schools and church organizations for a trophy awarded to the group that raises the most money for Habitat.

If other groups are interested in competing, call Habitat’s office at (847) 836-1432 to register. Every participant will receive a Habitat T-shirt to commemorate their involvement in the event.
