Aldi rolls into Schaumburg market
BATAVIA - Aldi discount grocer is opening in Schaumburg today at 1412 E. Algonquin Road. The store will feature fresh produce and grocery items at lower prices than traditional supermarkets. The grocers' cost-saving practices include having customers bring or buy recyclable bags, and using a shopping cart deposit system where customers insert a quarter to retrieve a cart and get the quarter back at the end of the shopping trip. The international company entered the U.S. market in 1976 and has plans to open 100 new locations here this year.
