Round Lake to host pet parade
The Village of Round Lake will host the fourth annual Pet Parade and Animal Talent Show as part of the Streets of Summer festival on June 28, at Route 134 and Cedar Lake Road. There will also be trophies for the best dressed, best trick, best behaved, etc., plus a raffle for prizes. All of this and no fee to register.
Save-A-Pet will be there with adoptable animals and there will be canine demonstrations from Round Lake's new police dog, Highway. Between 9 a.m. and noon, the Lake County Animal Control will do microchipping, offer vaccinations, rabies shots and distemper shots for nominal fees. Shows and Trials: Stone City Kennel Club will have Agility Trials on the club grounds, July 5 and 6 at 13506 W. Larawy Road, New Lenox.
Blackhawk Kennel Club will hold an all-breed Conformation Show and Obedience Trial plus Junior Showmanship on July 5 at Lee County 4-H Center and grounds on Route 30 in Amboy.
Greater DeKalb Kennel Club will have the same menu on July 6 and 7 indoors on the Northern Illinois campus at Lincoln Hwy. and Annie Glidden Road, in DeKalb.
Golf Outing: Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin will host the second Annual Driving Them Home golf outing July 11 at the Highlands of Elgin. Shotgun Start will be at 11:30 a.m. After trying your luck at a hole-in-one and putting contests and more, there will be dinner and a prize ceremony. Entry fee is $95 for 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, dinner and various contests and prizes. Proceeds will benefit the shelter that provides temporary housing for 3,400 homeless or abandoned companion animals annually. The shelter also does everything in its power to help curb pet overpopulation through spay/neuter efforts. Delta Tests: Lyons Township Dog Training Club's Ben's Friends therapy group will have the next Delta Test on July 8. If interested in getting your dog involved or if you want to become a volunteer, contact Gail at daldog2@sbcglobal.net or call (708) 449-5066. For the test, you must preregister. The fee is $15. If you want to see what the therapy dogs do, Ben's Friends will be at Lexington Square, 555 Foxworth Ave., Lombard, at 2 p.m. July 10 and at British Home, 8700 W. 31st St., Brookfield, across from Brookfield Zoo, at 1 p.m. on July 12 or 26.
Summer Schedule: Lincolnwood Dog Training Club for German Shepherd Dogs is back outdoors for the summer months with a choice of classes including agility, obedience and rally. Meet 'n Greet: Members of the Greyhounds Only, Inc. Adoption and Rescue, will be at Gurnee PetsMart, 6405 Grand Ave.(Route 132 and Hunt Club Road) for a Meet 'n Greet on July 5.
