Sky snaps 3-game losing streak
ATLANTA -- Jia Perkins and Dominique Canty each scored 16 points to help the Chicago Sky beat the winless Atlanta Dream 86-72 on Friday night.
The Sky snapped a three-game losing streak and got the victory without rookie Sylvia Fowles, the 6-foot-6 center who injured her knee in the third quarter against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday.
The Sky controlled most of the second half against the Dream, the only team in the WNBA without a win. Whenever Atlanta tried to rally, the Sky answered with a strong run.
Betty Lennox, who went scoreless on 4 shot attempts in the first half, scored 8 of the Dream's first 12 points of the third quarter. Atlanta tied the game 45-45 on Ivory Latta's 3-pointer with 2:49 left in that period.
But Cathy Joens scored 5 points during the Sky's 11-1 run to build a 56-46 lead. Chasity Melvin and Armintie Price had back-to-back layups, then Candice Dupree scored 4 straight points as the Sky took a 72-60 lead with 3:48 left in the game.
Dupree scored 15 points and Price added 12 for the Sky (2-4). Price, who scored only 4 points and had 1 assist in the last two games, finished with 9 points.
Atlanta (0-6) pulled within 6 points on Latta's 3 pointer with 2:15 remaining in the fourth period, but could pull no closer. Latta had 17 points, hitting 4 of 7 shots from beyond the arc. Lennox had 14 points.
