Put resident before developer

As the current village board of Long Grove enters into its first foray ever with a big box retailer, it is obvious that they are ill-advised and inexperienced in how to balance the needs of its residents with those of the developer (Menards). Board president Maria Rodriguez's executive proclamation to allow an intrusive and unsightly sewer station to be built within a scenic corridor based solely on engineering considerations is careless and one dimensional. Despite real and legitimate questions about safety, environmental risks and residential impact, all are summarily dismissed in favor of engineering design and commercial development. Needless to say, this board has lost sight of the long-held priorities of a truly unique community that include preservation of open space and maintaining conservancy, not to mention putting its residents first, not a Menards super store.

For now the battle may be over in Ms. Rodriguez's mind, but it won't really be over until she and others are up for re-election.
