Crossing work was CN's revenge
On Monday night, and probably for the rest of the week, CN, through their surrogate EJ&E, wreaked their revenge on the citizens of Barrington and the surrounding villages and towns for their audacity in opposing their purchase of the RR.
How? By the closure of their road crossing on Route 14 in Barrington. They very effectively created one enormous traffic snarl with miles of backup and down Route 14 and Lake-Cook Road.
At 4.30 p.m. westbound cars on Lake Cook Road ere creeping along at not more 2 mph. Should there have been a fire or a medical emergency the delay in reaching the victims could have been serious or even lethal.
This situation should not be allowed to continue. In my conversation with Barrington's police department I was told the watch commander was "aware" of the situation, but with only four officers on duty his course of action was limited. Surely some contingency planning was in order to alleviate the problem?
I trust the local press will have their photographers and reporters on the scene to publicize our predicament. Photos and first hand accounts will be very good evidence to present to the appropriate authorities to kill the takeover of EJ&E by CN.
