SIU lands Iowa guard Freeman
CARBONDALE -- Last year's leading scorer for the Iowa Hawkeyes plans to finish his collegiate basketball career as a Saluki.
Southern Illinois coach Chris Lowery says Tony Freeman has transferred to Carbondale.
As a junior guard last season at Iowa, Freeman averaged nearly 14 points a game after missing the first 10 games of the season with a stress fracture.
The 6-foot-1 Freeman made 38 percent of his three-point shots for the 13-and-19 Hawkeyes.
He was a third-team all-Big Ten pick by league coaches.
Freeman announced the transfer last month, saying the Salukis gave him the respect he wanted.
He must sit out next season to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements, then has just one season remaining.
