Briefs: Raku Day returns

Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles will have its 15th annual Raku Day and open house today and Saturday. From 5 to 8:30 p.m. today, the public can learn to glaze pottery made by Fine Line staff. The cost is $40 and includes a picnic dinner and a $15 coupon. School board OKs hirings

The St. Charles school board finalized the hiring of two new elementary school principals this week. Effective July 1, Adam Zbrozek will be principal of Lincoln Elementary School at a salary of $96,000, and Rachel Overton will be principal of Norton Creek Elementary School at a salary of $110,000. Both Overton and Zbrozek have previous administrative experience and were recommended by committees of parents, staff and administrators.

Hot dogs, hot rods

The third annual Hot Dogs & Hot Rods show is planned for 4 p.m. today at Autopractor, 1820 Production Drive, St. Charles. The free event includes collector cars, food and drinks. Cruise nights in Batavia

The Batavia Jaycees have announced the 2008 Cruise Night schedule. The Cars Under the Stars event will be from 6 to 9 tonight, June 27, July 11 and 25, Aug. 8 and 22, Sept. 5 on the Riverwalk on Houston Street. Reception for sculptors

A public reception for the 2008 Sculptures in the Park series in St. Charles is set for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount St. Mary Park, on the west bank of the Fox River, south of Route 64. Visitors can meet the artists behind 16 sculptures in this year's exhibit, sponsored by the St. Charles Park District and the Downtown St. Charles Partnership. Call (630) 513-5386.

Concerts in the park

Free concerts are planned in St. Charles through Aug. 14 for the park district's annual Concerts in the Park series. The concerts start at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Park, along West Main Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. Scheduled to perform are: Hello Dave, Thursday; The Nadas, June 26; Kimi Hayes Band, July 3; Spoken Four, July 10; Gizzae, July 17; The Class of '68, July 24; April's Reign, July 31; the Air Force Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble, Aug. 7; and Howard and the White Boys, Aug. 14. Kids golf tournament

The 2008 St. Charles Little Guys and Gals Golf Tournament is planned for July 15 and 16 at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave. The competition, sponsored by Klinkey Heating and Sheet Metal, is open to children 11 and younger who have a St. Charles mailing address, live in the St. Charles Park District or have a season park pass.
