Chicagoan drowns in college pond
An 18-year-old Chicago man drowned in a retention pond on the campus of St. Xavier University on Chicago's far southwest side, and authorities say he apparently went into the water to retrieve a volleyball.
Chicago Fire Department divers found Leonel Ibarra Junior's body at about 8:30 p.m Thursday. Authorities say he was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
University spokesman Joe Moore says Ibarra wasn't a St. Xavier student, and Moore noted that there are several sand volleyball courts near the pond that are open to the public.
