The real blame lies with Republicans

This is in response to the lengthy but erroneous "state of the union" commentary by letter writer Mr. Lawrence Boni of Palatine in Sunday's Herald titled "Democrats Have Created a Mess."

Blaming the Democrats for the Republican-created mess is like blaming the police for increased crime.

The Democrats hold razor-thin majorities in both the House and Senate, which precludes any of their attempts at reform since the large Republican minority has the power to block any meaningful legislation, as they have since the Democrats took alleged control of Congress in 2006.

Mr. Boni accuses Senator Obama, if elected, of putting us on the path to socialism.

As I have previously pointed out in this forum, we already live in a semi-socialist society with tax breaks and subsidies to large corporations, the oil industry, and farmers, to name a few.

Since Mr. Boni is against anything socialistic, I would ask him to withdraw from Medicare since Medicare is a purely socialistic (and very successful) program.
