Itasca day care evacuates after gas leak

An Itasca day-care center was evacuated Monday afternoon after a construction crew struck a gas line, police said.

The incident happened about 3:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Pierce Road in a townhouse development, Deputy Chief Bob O'Connor said.

As a result, children and teachers at Bright Horizons, 270 Windsor Drive, evacuated the building and relocated to a safe location, police said.

There were no injuries, O'Connor said. Traffic was rerouted out of various parking garages, he said.

Nicor was on the scene repairing the gas line, O'Connor said.

The Itasca and Roselle fire departments also remained at the scene for assistance.
