Man charged in death of nursing home resident

Chicago police have charged a 50-year-old man from West Cermak with first-degree murder in the beating death of a nursing home resident.

Solomon Owasanoye was charged Saturday. Police did not say if he was an employee of the nursing home.

The Cook County coroner says 77-year-old Ivory Jackson died Monday from injuries and an infection following a blow to the head during an assault.

Fran Meehan is an attorney for the nursing home where Jackson most recently lived. She says the assault occurred at a different nursing home.

A phone message left at that nursing home, All Faith Pavilion, by The Associated Press was not immediately returned. The establishment has a history of fines for serious violations of the state's nursing home law.
