Parker grabs WNBA rookie honors
Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks captured WNBA Rookie of the Month honors for May.
In her first WNBA game on May 17 against the 2007 defending champion Phoenix Mercury, Parker posted the best rookie debut in league history and came within two assists of a triple-double. In that 99-94 victory, the Naperville native had 34 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists.
The No.1 overall pick in the 2008 Draft, Parker leads all rookies in scoring (19.2 ppg), rebounding (11.5 rpg) and assists (6.3 apg).
On May 29 against Indiana, Parker tallied the first-ever "5x5" performance in WNBA history, posting 16 points, 16 rebounds, 6 blocked shots, 5 assists and 5 steals.
