Child actors sought

Young actors and actresses are sought for open auditions of "A Christmas Story" today at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. The production is being presented by Noble Fool Theatricals, which seeks children to portray characters ranging from ages 7 to 11. Auditions are open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. No appointment is necessary, but participants are asked to prepare a selection from the script, available at www.noblefool.org, and to provide photos of themselves and resumes. St. Charles police are loaning copies of a video on terrorism awareness to local residents and community groups. The 10-minute public service video, "Homeland Security Begins at Home -- You Can Help" was a project of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, the Office of Homeland Security and the Illinois Terrorism Task Force, officials said. Ladies golf tournament

The 2008 St. Charles Ladies Golf Tournament is planned for July 10-12 at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave. The competition, sponsored by Avenue Two Barber Shop, includes both nine- and 18-hole divisions. It's open to women ages 18 and older who have a St. Charles mailing address, live in the St. Charles Park District or have a season park pass. The deadline to register is 8 p.m. Sunday. Nature programs for kids

Children ages 3 to 6 can explore nature in the Kane County Forest Preserve's "Near to Nature" programs this summer. Children and their parents will explore natural areas, go on hikes and play games. The cost is $5 for each session. Dates offered are: Aug 26 at Burnidge Forest Preserve, 38W235 Big Timber Road, Elgin; Aug. 27 at Tekakwitha Woods Nature Center, 35W076 Villa Maria Road, St. Charles; Aug. 28 at the Les Arends Forest Preserve, 2S731 Route 31 in Batavia.
