How do Glen Ellyn gardens grow?

Many hidden treasures are tucked away in the backyards of Glen Ellyn homes.

On Saturday, six of them will be showcased during The Bridge Communities 6th Annual Glen Ellyn Garden Walk, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $20 through June 4 and $25 beginning June 5. All proceeds will benefit Bridge Communities' transitional housing program, which provides transitional housing to homeless families in DuPage County.

"Our gardens are very much what we would call a garden lover's garden," Amy Van Polen, resource development director said. "They are really loved and cared for, and some people have been working on them for more than 30 years."

Gardens that will be open include The Hale Garden at 497 Raintree Drive, the Lambke garden at 551 Stratford Lane, the Smith garden at 521 Carlisle Court, the Rowe garden at 818 Lenox Road, the Reynolds garden at 384 Cottage and the Worniak garden at 310 North Park Blvd.

New this year, Glen Ellyn restaurants are partnering with the Garden Walk and will donate 10 percent of their lunch proceeds to Bridge Communities. Participants include Village Links Grill, Danby's Station, Tap House Grill, European Deli and Market and Shannon's Irish Pub.

Also, since it's Bridge Communities' 20th anniversary this year, there will be trivia questions and giveaways to highlight the occasion and thank supporters, Van Polen said.
