Web site knows where you can go

Gotta go? I mean really gotta go?

But you don't know where. And you want to make sure it's, uh, clean.

Check out MizPee.com, which offers a free mobile service to help you find the nearest available public restroom and provide cleanliness reviews.

Instead of stars, the ratings have any number of tiny rolls of toilet paper to indicate whether the facilities are, shall we say, satisfactory.

"I remember going into the washroom at the public library here in San Francisco and getting a headache after about two minutes because it was so filthy," said site creator Peter Olfe.

"So I realized the need to find a clean restroom quickly -- and you can't exactly ask a person on the street where's the nearest clean restroom."

The Web site offers locations nationwide submitted by the public. Illinois' locations so far include only Chicago, Skokie and Libertyville for travelers who need a quick pit stop.

A sister Web site called FlushOfTheYear.com gives you the chance to vote, through Oct. 31, for your favorite public bathroom in the Chicago area.

Winners will be announced the week of Nov. 3. Winning facilities receive an award to display on site -- and, of course, bragging rights.

Both sites are the brainchild of Olfe's Yojo Mobile, which creates location-based services.

It launched MizPee in June 2007 with a version in Europe and another in the United States.

Olfe said the company checks addresses provided by posters to ensure the restrooms described are, indeed, public, and regularly monitors comments to filter out any crudeness.

The MizPee site offers reviewers a chance to name the business, its address and hours of operation, TP rating, and a few words about their experiences.

Here are some examples:

• "Excellent! Up to the second floor, left of the front desk. Immaculate, and with so much hotel traffic, no icy stares or keys."

• "One of my fans on the Mag Mile ... I suggest bypassing the main entrance for the bar entrance to the left of the main entrance."

• "I thought I was going to be attacked in these poorly maintained, not well-lit bathrooms. I'm never going here again."

• "Uck, I have seen better gas station restrooms."

• "I love the view of the city from this restroom."

Surfing: E-mail marketer Lisle-based Subscriber Mail LLC (subscribermail.com) has expanded its staff to 29, or about 25 percent more, and plans to add another eight workers by year's end.

It also has more than doubled its leased office space, from 3,000 square feet to 7,050 square feet.

In addition, Subscriber Mail said it has boosted its investment in more hardware and software to keep up with customer growth.

Online experiences: AT&T Inc. has launched its Online Experience Store.

Customers may visit att.com/onlineexperience to see a storefront, 3-D shopping and demonstrations of new phones and other products.
