College of Lake County notes

Quest programs: "Iran: Past and Present" and "The Enlightenment: Great Minds, Great Ideas, Great Impact" are the topics for the College of Lake County's 12th annual Quest program, designed for adults 50 and older.

The Iran program will be offered June 16 to 19, and The Enlightenment will be offered July 14 to 17. Both programs will meet from 9 a.m. to

3 p.m. at the CLC Southlake Campus, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills.

The rich Persian heritage - from 2400 years ago to today, will be explored through a series of seven lectures and a film.

The July Quest program on the enlightenment will cover history, philosophy, science, art, the music of Mozart and Beethoven, Thomas Paine, America's founding fathers and the French Revolution. The cost is $185 per week or $330 for both weeks.

CLC also is offering short-term classes as part of the Discovery! program for adults ages 50 and older. These include a beginning computer class, a slide lecture on Illinois small towns and tours to the House of Four Winds in Lake Forest and the "Hot Glass" exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

Camp Xplore: There is still time to register for Camp Xplore at the College of Lake County, which has expanded its summer camp programs for youth ages 6 to 16, to include sports, dance, LEGO engineering, video game making and Destination Imagination "Accept the Challenge" camps.

The following camps will be offered at the college's Lakeshore Campus, 33 N. Genesee St., Waukegan:

July 7 to 11: Elementary LEGO Engineering I (ages 8 to 14) morning camp at $169 per week; LEGO Vehicles (ages 8 to 14) afternoon camp at $169 per week.

July 14 to 18: Destination Imagination Accept the Challenge Camp (ages 6 to 8) morning camp costs $210 per week. Destination Imagination Accept the Challenge Camp (ages 9 to 16) afternoon camp costs $210 per week.

The following camps will be offered at the college's Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.:

June 9 to Aug. 1 (no camp the week of July 4): Kids First Sports Safety Ultimate Sports Camps for ages 6 to 14 costs $149 per week. One week each of basketball, tennis, volleyball, flag football for ages 6 to 12 costs $129 per week or $100 per week combined with Ultimate Sports Camp.

July 14 to 18: Jr. LEGO Engineering I (ages 6 to 7) morning camp costs $169 per week; Jr. LEGO Vehicles (ages 6 to 7) afternoon camp costs $169 per week.

July 21 to 25: Elementary LEGO Engineering I (ages 8 to 14) morning camp costs $169 per week. Video Game Making (ages 10 to 14) afternoon camps costs $169 per week.

The following camps will be offered at the Southlake Educational Center, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills:

June 16 to 20: Jr. LEGO Engineering I (ages 6 to 7) morning camp costs $169 per week; Jr. LEGO Vehicles (ages 6 to 7) afternoon camp costs $169 per week.

June 23 to 27: LEGO Robotics Academy (ages 10 to 14) morning camp costs $169 per week. Video Game Invaders (ages 10 to 14) afternoon camp costs $169 per week.

June 9 to Aug. 15: Summer Uproar Camp with Central Lake YMCA in Vernon Hills is open to youth entering sixth through ninth grade this fall. The community rate is $210 per week, and the corporate-sponsored rate is $175 per week.

Primadonna's Dance Academy, 815 Center St., Grayslake, will host a dance camp for ages 7 to 12 from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday June 17 to Aug. 15. A three-week camp costs $350. Discounts are available if students enroll in additional three-week sections.
