Daley uses Northwestern address to ask for help

Mayor Richard Daley says Chicago needs help from Northwestern University graduates.

Daley gave the commencement address Friday for the 150th graduating class at the Evanston school. He says Northwestern and Chicago have a long history together, but the city still needs graduates' help.

He says Chicago schoolchildren desperately need mentors or tutors.

Daley also wants Northwestern graduates to drum up excitement for the city's bid to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.

Some students said they were disappointed when they heard Daley was their commencement speaker because they didn't think he was high-profile enough.

Northwestern has defended its selection, citing Daley's national reputation as a leader.
