Volunteer for visit to Rehab Center

The Yury Shulman's Chess Without Borders Organization is offering a leadership opportunity to students and community members in joining a group of chess students to volunteer from 10 a.m. to noon June 11 at the South Elgin Rehabilitation Center, 746 W. Spring St, South Elgin.

Musicians and all other artists also are welcome to entertain the residents with their talents.

Project Leaders are Amanda Iacullo, Kyla Tovar and Emma May from Countryside Elementary School in Barrington.

The students will teach chess and socialize with the residents. The volunteer group will deliver puzzles and books donated by Half Price Book Store in Palatine.

Dive into summer at Algonquin pool

Season passes for the Algonquin Swimming Pool and Splashpad located across from Eastview Elementary and Algonquin Middle Schools are on sale. Passes are $140 for up to five family members and can be purchased at the Algonquin Swimming Pool and Splashpad, 599 Longwood Drive, (847) 458-7677 or the Algonquin village hall, 2200 Harnish Drive, (847) 658-2700.

Pool amenities include fully certified lifeguard staff, zero-depth area, lap area, 1-meter diving board, full-service concession stand, locker rooms, swim lessons for ages 6 months and older, private swim lessons available, private rentals and party packages.

The Splashpad area features Bernoulli play center, spraying geysers, tipping buckets, giant spraying frog, water cannons and more.
