Briefs: Meet new congressman
Congressman Bill Foster will hold a Congress on Your Corner session from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the West Dundee Jewel store, at 1250 West Main Street. Saturday spaghetti dinner:
United Commercial Travelers Elgin Council 412 will hold its seventh annual spaghetti fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The nonprofit benefits several programs to assist children. The dinner will be at 280 S. Melrose Ave., Elgin. For a donation of $8 you get a beverage, dessert and all the spaghetti you can eat. There will also be a raffle for gift cards to Wal-Mart and several restaurants. The winner need not be present to win. Call Gary at (847) 695-9599 for tickets.
Algonquin hosts green day
Algonquin hosts the 6th annual Algonquin Conservation Community Day from 1 to 4 p.m. today along the Woods Creek Bike Path from Bunker Hill Drive south to Woods Creek Lane. Parking is available on Bunker Hill Drive, Woods Creek Lane, Brookside Avenue, or at the Library on Harnish Drive. The theme for this year's event is "Conserve and Preserve: It's What Nature Deserves." The free event aims to educate and inform people about the environment, how natural resources are being protected in their community, and what local residents can do to conserve resources and protect the environment.
