New golf facility not good for golfers
I would imagine by now all of Kane County has seen the advertisement for the new banquet hall (alias, club house) located at the Highlands of Elgin golf course.
The advertisement attempts to feature the municipal golf course as well as the banquet hall. Unfortunately, this very expensive and ill-designed building for golf has little to do with golf; but it can pass for a wedding reception hall and a restaurant. It is evident the architect has no connection with the world of golf.
When it comes to golf, it is a disaster. Just to get started, one must climb a story and a half just to get up to the place where one needs to go to pay the green fee. This is also where the pro shop is. Then back down the stairs to get a cart. In addition, to get to the driving range to warm up, one must walk at least three times the distance as we traveled before.
After playing 11 holes you get back to the banquet hall. If you want a hot dog or a drink you must lean over and peek through a little window to give the order to the lady in charge. If you order a hot dog for instance, one cannot even apply condiments to the sandwich, she must do it. Any hot dog lover knows that applying the fixings is part of the art of hot dog sandwiches, and the only cups available for the drink are little coffee cups that do not fill the bill for pop or beer.
Another item overlooked is where to eat a sandwich when the weather might be a little cool and you have finished the round. As it stands now, you sit under a lower deck and gaze out at weeds and dead evergreens.
According to all of the golfers I talked to, they would like to have the trailer back. It is pretty obvious the golfing staff had little or nothing to do with the design.
