Pfleger was just more of the same
"Pfleger apologizes to congregation for Clinton comment," read a Monday Daily Herald headline.
The story referred to The Rev. Michael Pfleger's vile mockery of Hillary Clinton when he was a guest speaker at Trinity United Church of Christ, the church Barack Obama only recently abandoned.
He was apologizing to his own Catholic congregation, certainly not the Trinity congregation.
They loved his rant. They were standing. They were applauding. They were cheering. They were "right on-ing" louder and louder with his every race-baiting crack.
What he said and what he did is far less disturbing than how the hundreds of congregants received his venom-laced performance, how this same congregation received similar mean-spirited performances by its long-time pastor The Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
We've seen and heard it all before, but in the past it was via surreptitiously filmed Ku Klux Klan gatherings and the objects of ridicule were black, not white.
And then there's Obama himself who - he would have us believe - sat through 20 years of similar "sermons" in silent disapproval.
When the pews were packed with people cheering Wright, did Obama walk out in outrage or did he stand up and shout in lockstep with the others?
So Obama has resigned his membership in Trinity. Big deal. You can spell his action e-x-p-e-d-i-e-n-c-y.
This is was passes for presidential timber in the Democratic Party.
