Police say sex offender violated notice law

A Sugar Grove man was arrested Wednesday for being in violation of his registration as a sex offender.

Police discovered through a routine status check that Bradley Paul Julia Thomas, 29, had been terminated from his job June 4, investigative officer John Sizer said.

Under new requirements of the state sex offender registration act effective June 1, a registered sex offender has three days in which to notify police of a change in employment.

The Kane County state's attorney's office authorized a warrant for his arrest, and Thomas was taken into custody without incident by Sugar Grove police and transported to the Kane County jail. Parole agents with the Illinois Department of Corrections assisted in taking Thomas into custody.

Police said Thomas, who lives on the 1900 block of Fays Lane, is listed as a sexual predator and has previously been convicted of the sexual exploitation of a child who was 14 at the time of the offense. He has also been convicted of being in possession of child pornography. Thomas served his sentence and he was not on parole at the time of his arrest, police said.

Violating the Illinois sex offender registration act in a class 3 felony.

A judge set Thomas' bond at $30,000.
