Arlington Hts. offers scholarships
Arlington Heights will award scholarships to qualified Arlington Heights residents to pursue educational training, upgrading, or retraining. Scholarship criteria include Arlington Heights residency, financial need, course work that supports career goals and the selection of an approved Illinois educational institution. The scholarship can be applied to tuition, books, and any other commensurate educational expenses. A committee will review the applications and select scholarship winners. The deadline for submitting the scholarship application is 3 p.m., July 11 and applications can be found at www.vah.com, under "Quick Clicks," or call (847) 368-5100.
Des Plaines holds Paint-A-Thon
The City of Des Plaines Health & Human Services Office is offering the Community Paint-A-Thon, a partnership designed to paint the exteriors of homes owned and occupied by persons with limited financial resources, 60 years of age or older or those who have a permanent disability and are unable to so the work themselves. This paint project utilizes the support of community organizations and volunteers and is completed in one day. Paint day is scheduled for Sept. 6.
To qualify, household income is not to exceed $30,000 per year. Applications are available from City of Des Plaines Health and Human Services office, local Senior Centers, township offices or by contacting Catholic Charities at (847) 253-5500. Individuals or groups interested in painting should contact the Volunteer Center at (847) 228-1320. Application deadline is July 1.#
