Why do Dems gripe about Caroline?

Democratic critics of Caroline Kennedy complain that she is a "celebrity" without the qualifications necessary to be a senator. President-elect Barack Obama did not have the necessary qualifications to be president, but that did not stop the Democrats from nominating and electing him - so why do they grip about Caroline Kennedy's lack of qualifications for the senate? Lack of experience and accomplishments seems to be a plus for Democrats.
