Geneva grabs early lead in race to catch Sycamore

All three Tri-Cities Area Western Sun Conferences baseball teams did not complete their games Tuesday.

Geneva's outing against Sycamore was suspended in the third inning with the Vikings winning 1-0. Ryan Adams hit a 2-out double and Justin Doty followed with an RBI double that allowed his teammate to score.

This series is crucial for both teams, as it will determine the WSC champion. If Geneva sweeps the series against the Spartans, it will win the conference, either outright or in a share with Glenbard South if the Raiders sweep Rochelle this week.

Geneva and Glenbard South are 11-7 and Sycamore is 13-5 in the conference. Overall, Geneva is 18-7. The Vikings won the conference last year.

Today's game is at Geneva and Thursday's is at Sycamore. Tuesday's make-up game is to be determined.

"One game at a time," Geneva coach Matt Hahn said.

Kaneland's game at DeKalb was suspended an inning and a half in with the Knights leading 4-2.

DeKalb scored its runs in the bottom of the first. The Knights came back and scored 4 runs in the top of the second.

Kaneland is 10-8 in the WSC, 14-9 overall. It will resume its game with the Barbs Thursday. The third game of the series will start at 4 p.m. and once that is completed, the two teams will resume Tuesday's game.

As for Batavia's contest at Yorkville, that game will resume at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The game was called due to lightning in the bottom of the third with two outs and the Bulldogs winning 1-0.

Alex Beckmann led off with a single, stole second and scored on a Brad Brandenburg RBI single.
