Leaving accident scene inexcusable

After reading about the horrific accident this past weekend along I-90 near Route 31 in which two people died and three others were injured, I am upset with the person or persons who decided it may make sense to flee the scene on foot.

First, I cannot fathom the type of animal who would do such a thing, but then I thought back to an incident involving a loved one of mine some years ago.

She was t-boned at a local intersection and all of the occupants of the striking vehicle bailed out of the damaged car and ran away.

The occupants of the car left everything and the damaged vehicle behind.

Luckily, my loved one was shaken but not injured.

Here is my point: Going forward, I would like to see legislation that if someone in Illinois is involved in a pedestrian or motor vehicle accident and they flee the scene and if they are later caught and found guilty, their fines and punishment will automatically double.

There is no excuse for leaving the scene of an accident, period.
